Led by co-equal provincial and a federal co-chairs, the Federal Provincial Agricultural Trade Policy Committee was established in 1984. It facilitates federal provincial and interprovincial exchange, and provincial contributions to the federal government on agricultural trade policy issues, including bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations and agreements. The FPATPC consists of senior federal and provincial officials responsible for trade policy in their respective jurisdictions whose role is to:
The FPATPC reports and makes recommendations to the federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Agriculture.
In addition, provincial Committee members liaise with the National Association of States Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) and provide support to Canadian Provincial Ministers of Agriculture with regard to meetings and other activities of the States-Provinces Agricultural ACCORD involving Canada, the United States and Mexico.
